For some reason, the thought of Valentine’s Day can be daunting and throw many into a panic. It’s especially super easy to get jealous and frustrated if you’re single on Valentine’s Day. Watching all those happy couples you know sharing cute photos and all the mushy gushy status updates! Don’t even think about going into public, right? Clearly that’s the worst- being surrounded by affection galore! It’s easy to get depressed and yell at folks to go home or something of the like, but I assure you that with a little creativity, you can have just as much fun as everyone else! Love for friends and family, but even more so love for yourself, is just as important as romantic love. Here are 5 things to do if you’re single on Valentine’s Day.

“In order to love someone else, you must love yourself first!” Enjoy the night pampering yourself, you bust your butt to make it the best life you can, you deserve this!!

  • Indulge with your best at-home spa treatment
  • Get your nails
  • Get your hair done
  • Go get a therapeutic massage!
  • Go buy a crap ton of chocolate  (as if I need another reason)
  • Drink a bottle (or two) of wine!

Whatever it is you choose to do, remember that taking care of yourself is the best way to keep the attention on you!

Sure it’s a phenomenal feeling to share your life with someone, but I will never settle for less than what I deserve. I enjoy being single because of that!! I’m not sure if it’s just me though, which I honestly doubt, but who else has memorabilia from past relationships? Little letters? Cute drawings? A piece of jewelry? Random little items?

It’s a beautiful feeling having those memories to hold onto, but the physical possessions can sometimes actually harbor resentment or trigger bad feelings from the relationship.

*~* Not too long ago, I did a boyfriend bonfire!! I tossed all of those items into a barrel and watched them light up the night. Memories will always be in my head. Plain and simple. Plus with trying to be a minimalist, it was time they left anyways. Best decision ever!

#3- Volunteer

There are so many people in need, in your very own city! Volunteering just happens to be the utmost form of love!! Find an opportunity that appeals to you, get dressed and get out to help someone. Who knows, maybe you will meet a like minded guy/gal there!

  • Do a weekend city clean-up
  • Visit an elderly home
  • Go work a food bank
  • Volunteer to read a story to kids at the library

The possibilities are endless and this is a great opportunity to remind you how much you do have to be grateful for and how much you can help others.

We all need to be cherished. Heck, we all WANT to be cherished. But despite our good intentions, we often forget to tell the people we love how important they are to us. Valentines Day is not for solely for celebrating a romantic love. It’s a chance to remind us to tell all of our loved ones how glad we are that they’re in our lives and how much we truly appreciate them!

  • Cook someone’s favorite meal
  • Spoil them with mushy gushy gifts
  • Go see a movie together
  • Give a letter of appreciation
  • You know what would really be awesome? Volunteer together!

This one is super fun! One of my favorite things to do is to get crafty and my friends LOVE IT! Thankfully I have Sewing Machine to help me out this year to create some of the best gifts for my galfriends!

  1. The boyfriend bonfire actually reminds me of an episode of Friends, when the girls are doing one and they end up with the fire brigade at their door. It was very funny. But I agree, Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be a tragedy if you are single! A pampering day can make miracles for your body and soul! 🙂

  2. I actually do not care for Valentine’s Day. I am married but of course there were years where I wasn’t. This particular holiday can be very stressful if you don’t have someone to share it with. Funny thing is we have been married for 27 years and almost never get to spend Valentine’s Day together due to our work/careers. It is what it is.

  3. I agree, enjoy this festive with yourself and family would be great. Who said being single this Valentine would be lonely. It all depends on a person’s perspective.

  4. I would love to spend the day with some gals just relaxing and having fun. I like the spoil suggestion. I will shower my kids because they think it’s fun! Volunteering and showing the love is also a nice idea!

  5. Nice thoughts on Valentines day. I agree Valentines day is a day to celebrate Love and by that I mean all kinds of love. Be it a romantic partner kind of love, a platonic kind or a maternal kind of love. However the most important kind of love is self love without it we are incapable of any other kind.

  6. The boyfriend bonfire is funny, I never kept a single memorabilia from my past relationship. haha! I have no plans this Valentines yet but these are awesome activities.

  7. i don’t celebrate valentine’s day other give my mom a card and candy. it’s a tradition and she lovesit which matters at the end.

  8. Excellent advice and not just for Valentine’s Day. I’ll apply them as soon as my husband goes on a business trip. I will honor myself with a good massage and gifts to the kids.

  9. I have many friends tell me that being single on valentine is not so bad as they know they are not alone and it allows them to spend more time with those they love

  10. This was a great post, you did boyfriend bonfire, superb, to get away with all those cluttered feelings still remaining. Galentine’s day sounded cool enough to sew some beautiful gifts.

  11. Oooooh volunteer yes!!!!!!!!! I am down here in Guatemala helping families and also working so I go 24/7 it seems but I totally didn’t think about volunteering on Valentine’s Day!! I’m on it!!
